I have been requested to make a D6 Caterpillar Bulldozer, about a 1943 model fitted with hydraulic workings of the dozer blade which were not available until the late fifties. I have put this in the toy section as I don't wish to create any problems as it is not true to scale.
The wheels and indexing of gears has been covered before on other models, now for the links , they are 32 x 8 x 8, the end halving was done on the router table, pivots drilled one end 4 mm the other 11/64,the scallop in the top edge was done using the same block that held to do the ends, a jig was made to round the ends on the disc sander.
With the number of operations ( 2500 plus ) to do these links I decided to make two TOYS at the same time, one for myself.
Some photos of the router set up, jig for rounding ends and one of the links completed on the wheels to get the axle spacings. John.
