Spotted Queensland Kauri - has anyone seen it?

lundi 20 avril 2015

Many woodworkers will be familiar with Queensland and New Zealand Kauri Pine, Agathis species. One form of ornately figured New Zealand Kauri is known as spotted. This figure is relatively common in fine New Zealand Kauri furniture (but not of course the utilitarian pieces like kitchen tables).

I have a piece of furniture with spotted Kauri that the dealer told me was spotted Queensland Kauri. Given that the species are closely related it seems quite likely that there could have been examples but I have never heard of it before.

So - over to you knowledgeable people: Does anyone have any experience of finding spotted figure in Queensland Kauri boards? Photo below (fairly poor quality sorry) to show what I mean.

The next question of course is whether anyone has any available.
