Bought 2 years ago, second hand

Since then, I have installed the 'improved' (thicker) chipbreaker, will also supply original chipbreaker with sale.

Reason for sale: I now own too many smoothing planes. This one, although a beautiful plane, I do not use enough to justify its place in the toolbox, and it needs to go to someone who will use and appreciate it more.

It has many of the original design features of the Stanley 'Bedrock' planes, including the frog adjustment and retention mechanism, with the addition of a ductile iron body, making it much less susceptible to cracking if knocked, unlike older grey iron planes. It also has a bronze frog and lever cap.

It is very good at smoothing irregular grain in panels: reversing, fiddleback, or just plain knotty.

I have used it for the two years I have owned it, and have found it to be a capable tool. In use, it has acquired use marks, so I would not call it a mint example. However, I would say it is in excellent condition for a 'user' plane, and 'good' to 'very good' for a collector. I do not have the original box. See photos.

Two very small faults (shown in photos):

a 4mm long scratch in the back half of the sole, since lapped out.

A minor and superficial corrosion spot on the top of the blade, above the adjuster slot. This has been buffed and polished, and is almost invisible.

I have used Camellia oil to keep the ground surfaces bright, and kept it in a corrosion-resistant bag also.

Willing to show in Melbourne CBD by appointment, otherwise, in Woodend, Victoria.
