Internals of "Tree" boring tool

vendredi 6 novembre 2015

In a previous post I asked about two unknown (to me) tools. One of them I found to be a Tree boring tool (thanks to forum members who recognized it):2tsup:

Further reading gave me the impression not a lot of people knew what made it tick.:?
So when I partially dismantled it for cleaning (mostly dried up oil that made the movement sticky) I decided to take some pictures.

first some pictures of the complete tool

the worm driving the automatic feature. It is driven by a geartrain from the large numbered ring on the body of the tool. Sorry, I haven't disassembled that part so no pictures.

wormgear and rack gear. This is a friction assembly. When the large "nut" on the left is loosened with a allen key, the slide can be moved without the need to rotate the worm. When tightened the slide is connected to the worm and will autofeed.

Let me know if you want to know more (no, I am not disassembling it any further )
Peter.
