A heap of short jokes

A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she
could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she prayed, 'Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!'
While she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again!
As she ran she once again began to pray, 'Dear Lord, please don't let me be late...But please Don't shove me either!'

~~~~~~~~~~~~
An elderly woman died last month. Having never married, she requested no male Pallbearers.
In her handwritten instructions for her memorial Service, she wrote, 'They wouldn't take me out while I was alive, I don't want them to take me out when I'm dead'
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her Mother “Why is the Bride dressed in white?”
The mother replied, “Because white is the colour of happiness and this is the happiest day of her life”
The child thought about this for a minute then said “Why is the Groom wearing black?”

~~~~~~~~~~~~
A police recruit was asked during the exam, “What would you do if you had to arrest your own Mother?”
He answered “Call for backup.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Sunday School teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary took Jesus with them to Jerusalem.
A small child replied, 'They couldn't get a baby-sitter.'

~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds.
After explaining the commandment to 'Honour thy Father and thy Mother,' she asked,
'Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?'
Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, 'Thou shall not kill.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~

At Sunday School they were teaching how God Created everything, including human beings.
Little Johnny seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs.
Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and she said, 'Johnny, what is the matter?'
Little Johnny responded, 'I have pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife.'

~~~~~~~~~~~~
You don't stop laughing because you grow old..... You grow old because you stop laughing!
Take heed and pass these along to people who need a laugh.
I thought you would enjoy this....times are tough right now...for all of us...so we need something to make the day a happy place.
"THEY" HAVEN'T FOUND A WAY TO TAX YOU FOR LAUGHING YET.
QLD Groz Quality Sash Cramps 4 @ 2m long
4 Quality Groz sash cramps mounted to solid steel 2” RHS. RHS are 2m in length which gives a cramping span of just under that. I think these would easily compete with the best quality Sash cramps for strength. $100 for the lot of 4 ($25 each). Pickup from Ascot.DSCF0017.jpg
tyres for an old 12" Paul Call bandsaw
I am trying fix an old 12" Paul Call bandsaw my father gave me. The main issue is the tyres.
The wheels are flat with no lip. Looking for advice on suitable tyres. Prefer to buy in Brisbane if possible.
Urethane tyres sound good but will they stay on a flat wheel? Or can Urethane tyres be glues on? Gregory Machinery have the urethane tyres in stock in Brisbane.
I am thinking glue on rubber tyres is most likely to be what is needed.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Peter
Advice on handling and using Accacia Timber
We have an Accacia tree that will need to be removed. It had 3 trunks/branches growing from just above ground. One had drooped down and was in the way so I removed it. Now another one has split off fromm the tree and needs removing. As there is not a whole lot left now we have decided to take it all out. It has long narrow leaves (phyllodes I guess) and yellow flowers. Other than that I don't know what species it is.
The timber is a nice deep red brown and has some nice figuring from what I have seen of it. (firewood) Rather than cutting it up for firewood like the previous lot I would like to do something with the timber. There is not a lot so just a few small projects.
One thing I thought of was making cutting boards. Is there any issue with using accacia for these. A clock would be another option.
I would like to know how I should handle the timber. I will be cutting it into sections of similar diameter and slabbing it with a chainsaw. I will probably knock up a tempory mill. Less than metre lengths is all I am likely to get in usable sizes.
After slabbing, what is the best way to deal with it. The reason I am asking this is because of the short lengths. They may be as small as 300-400mm. There is a nice looking trunk base bit left from the last cleanup that is bent sharply, maybe 200mm x 300mm cross section.
Should I rough out before allowing to dry or just let it dry first?
Is it feasible to stack small variable lengths like this for drying as per normal methods. I have lots of imported oak, flat 8mm thick x 50-80mm wide and square 20mm x 20mm to be used as battens for stacking.
I would like suggestions on how people would deal with this themselves and also what things they would use this timber for.
I can provide more specific information on the tree if required. I will look at the pods and see if I can identify it. I dont believe it is a local species.
Combination Saw Blade??
I'm trying to find a good quality (50t ATB+R) combination blade for my Bosch table saw (254mm diameter and 24.5mm bore). I've searched all the local outlets (I'm in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne) as well as the on-line outlets that I am aware of. All without any luck.
I need it to create flat bottom cuts, for mitre keys initially.
Looking for any clues from those more experienced than me.
Thanks in anticipation.
Earth moving machinery repair recommendations required
G'day.
This is the shaft off a ball joint on the 3 point linkage draw bar for a tractor drawn grader.
It has been welded up twice with a stick welder & some old high tensile rods but the weld breaks at the point of contact with the metal.
The rods are old, the packet was opened several years ago, they are crap to use, hard to strike an arc till they warm up & then they start to stick once they are hot.
Can somebody please recommend rods for this job?
Thanks.
Sher Power Tools 14" Miter Saw Model CH - M14
I inherited this saw and it appears to be a good solid saw but one thing that I find un-nerving is the blade, when at the bottom of a cut, is very close to the left hand side of the slot in the base. With a little effort it is possible to make contact with the base.
i would love to know if any other members have the same saw or know of a fix to centre the blade in the slot in the base.
Jorgenson type wooden hand screws
How useful are these types of clamps and what would be the most useful size?
I'm looking at some cheap chinese versions that are only about $9 for the 10" size and wondering if it's worth the punt. I find I use the cheap Irwin 12" quick grips a lot, but they're not much good on somethings like holding pieces on the drill press table.
New Email Scam - Bogus Traffic Fines Supposedly from the Australian Federal Police
An article about this new scam appeared in the Courier Mail newspaper on Wednesday (29/4/15), and behold I received my own copy of the scam by email today. According to the Courier Mail article, if you click on the links from a Windows computer, a "Ransom Ware" type program is installed and the computer is apparently "locked" until you pay the ransom.
I love the wording used in the first sentence "You've got been given that has a traffic violation". The poor English wording appears throughout the email, so hopefully, that poor wording will alert people to the fact that it is a bogus email ..... before they click on any of the links.
The following link will take you to an "ABC News" website article about the scam http://ift.tt/1ETAB24
Cheap chainsaw grinder sharpener
Just wondering if anyone can recommend any of the cheaper chainsaw sharpeners?
I have a new Stihl 291 with an 18 inch bar, and want to keep it cutting effeciently.
There seems to be a few around, Ozito, 909, Rockwell, and a miriad of them on Ebay.
I am looking around the $50 mark, strictly for occasional use over winter.
I use the Stihl handfile in the bush for a touch-up, and I am planning on using the grinder back in the workshop.
Cheers
Mulga sword
Hullo
A skeleton dated to about 500 years ago has 2 cuts thought to be sword cuts until the dating made that "impossible". So they say a mulga blade did it. Do you believe that sharpened mulga weapons can cut wedges of bone 170mm long and cut through arm muscle?
Sneak Peek
Sneak Peek.
My donation to the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) - Education Opportunities Grant (EOG) donation - a linear laminated goblet from West Australian Jarrah for the main body and stem with Silver Ash and Red Gum veneers. Approx 8.1" × 2.44" (205 mm × 62 mm). Sealed with nitro-cellulose sanding sealer, test fitting prior to glue-up, then a lick of lacquer & into the post.
Now all I need is a snappy title - any ideas?
trivia - trisecting an angle & gradians
I'd long believed that it was impossible to trisect an angle. Started googling it recently and found that thats not quite true. You can do it if you have marks on the straight edge, the original "rules of the game" were pencil paper compass and unmarked straight edge.
http://ift.tt/1IdZmaS see 1/2 way down the page or attached snippett below
Am curious - why did 360 degrees survive decimalisation ? I have seen web pages advocating a decimal degree system but it never caught on. ie 400 units defining a full circle each quadrant being 100 units and abolishing minutes and seconds just have decimal places.
I've read on the internet that old European theodolites can be marked up in 400 Gradians and that the French Military used Gradians
Which Belt Sander (hand held)
I'm in the market for a belt sander, and my preference would be for a 100mm wide jobbie. That's restricts the choices quite significantly, and will be more expensibve to run, but many of the targets for it will be ~100mm wide (e.g. fence palings that I don't necessarily want to put through the jointer/thicky).
100mm choices that I can spot are:
Hitachi at $365 (1020w)
Makita at $409 (1200w)
Festool - a snip at $1587 (1400w) That comes with other accessories, but it's a matter of whether I'd use them....
75mm width opens up more choices, and cheaper running, but means twice as many passes....
What thoughts does the Brains Trust have on this please?
An Engineer or Lawyer?
An Engineer was unemployed for long time. He could not find a job
so he opened a medical clinic and puts a sign up outside: "Get your
treatment for £500, if not treated get back £1,000."
One Lawyer thinks this is a good opportunity to earn £1,000 and goes
to his clinic.
Lawyer: "I have lost taste in my mouth."
Engineer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops
in the patient's mouth."
Lawyer: "This is Petrol!"
Engineer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be
£500."
The Lawyer gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days later
to recover his money.
Lawyer: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."
Engineer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops
in the patient's mouth."
Lawyer: "But that is Petrol!"
Engineer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will
be £500."
The Lawyer leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.
Lawyer: "My eyesight has become weak."
Engineer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for this. Take
this £1,000."
Lawyer: "But this is £500..."
Engineer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back!
That will be £500."
10" Carbatec combination thicknesser feed in roller clogging
I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this before.
When using my Carbatec 10" combination thicknesser/jointer as a thicknesser the cast iron feed in roller clogs. What seems to happen is that the shavings from the cutters are blown back around the roller which then rolls over them, compressing them into the grooves. This builds up in only a couple of metres of timber to the point where the roller won't feed the timber. I have a 2kw blower for shaving removal that is working fine and I'm a bit stumped. It happens only on the center of the roller, even when I'm using the full width of the thicknesser.
Anyone seen this before?
Discount
The owner of a golf course at the Gold Coast was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help.
He called her into his office and said,
"I need some help with a discount.
You graduated from the University of Queensland and I need some help. If I was to give you $20,000, minus 5%, how much would you take off?"
The secretary thought a moment, and then replied,
"Everything but my earrings."
They've been shot dead
Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were shot dead at 3.30am this morning (AEST).
Neither I, nor anyone else, condones their actions in 2006. Nor can their actions be regarded as minor.
However, very little if anything will be gained by their lives being ended in such a barbaric way.
For all their faults and criminal actions, they still had a positive contribution to make, even if it was only to help other prisoners be rehabilitated. After all, that's what prison is for.
Perhaps Joe Hockey will get an unexpected $½Bill bonus.
It will be interesting to see how our PM handles this diplomacy. Not well I fear.
Folk Art Santa
This is something to me - I don't normally carve what I consider "folk art", but my wife wanted me to try this one. I also don't normally antique my carvings after painting, but, again, she wanted me to try it. Basswood with acrylic paint, about 210mm tall.
Stanley No 7 Jointer Plane Redux
I've really been enjoying building my collection of hand tools organically as I find them on the vintage market. I've had some scores here and there. Usually, they just require knocking the rust off, oiling, etc. This one is different.
I found this on Gumtree. It's the same story you always hear. Guy's grandfather had died in 1975 and the plane, a type 13 (or 14) No 7 from the twenties, had been sitting in the shed since. FORTY YEARS this thing had been collecting rust. I'm 29, so that is a bit hard to imagine for me I guess.
Anyway, it was in rough shape. Lots of rust, some pitting, the japanning was corroded in parts, and the handle had been replaced with some kind of plywood which had delaminated years ago following an obvious replacement of the original, rosewood handle.
Needless to say, it needed a lot of work. But it met the three critical requirements which are 1. All the metal parts were there 2. The adjustment mechanism wasn't damaged and 3. there was no damage around the mouth.
Before:
IMG_1988.JPGIMG_1989.jpgIMG_1990.JPGIMG_1987.jpg
To knock the rust off of the large surfaces I used a nylon brush bit mounted in my lathe. I was a bit skeptical about this for a few reasons, but it worked fantastically, especially on the corrugated sole. This saved a lot of time and 240-grit sandpaper.
IMG_1991.JPG
I then made a new tote and knob. The knob was an easy turn-job. The tote, however, was my first genuine attempt at shaping a handle by hand. My hand-stitched rasps are still a couple of purchases away, so I went against my best judgement and bought a $20 set of rasps from Mitre 10. Incredibly crap-nanimous, but they worked I guess. I got the shape right on the first try, but it actually took me four handle blanks to get it to fit right. In the end, it was my process that was flawed. Lesson learned. I used New Guinea Rosewood (Pterocarpus indicus). A good choice I think.
I also taped up the metal parts and sprayed it with some matte black automotive engine enamel. I was really happy with how it turned out.
IMG_1998.JPGIMG_1995.jpgIMG_1997.JPG
But does it cut wood...? I sharpened the blade, lapped it a bit, and set to work. It's great! I really dig the corrugated sole. I've read it's a gimmick but I genuinely believe that it reduces friction and makes a noticeable diffenence. Maybe it's placebo.
Anyway, the last time this plane cut shavings, John Lennon was making records, the USSR was a thing, and you could still get away with wearing plaid bell-bottoms, so we've definitely come a long way...
IMG_1994.jpg
More to come soon. I think my next big restoration will be a similar series of changes to my No 3.
Cheers,
Luke
