Hi all
some have asked about my composite acrylic pens. Ok this started as a crazy idea one day during a hot summer in the shed. what do I do with my boxes of off cuts. This is my own invention ... Maybe some one else has tired this.
how do I make them..
A) sand the off cuts to approx same length and square
B) made a jig that fits the pieces and squishes off cuts length wise and side ways
C) Assemble off cuts in some sort off pattern .. Eg a Dark light dark .. Make sure the overall length is close to the barrel length so the ends don't need a lot of trimming
D) Assemble blanks with glad wrap under neath to stop sticking
E) glue up with medium or thick super glue
F) Screw up jig making sure it is not too tight .. Firm .. Otherwise the glue squeezes out
G) Let glue dry for 24 hr or more
H) hey presto you have a new blank ..
i) make pens as you normally would
These pens have been really popular and every one is different since the off cuts are always different. So far I have used this method for acrylics but not polyester blanks.
When I get back from Ballarat I will post some picks of the jig if you are interested.
