US Desert Ironwood cast in Gold/Silver Polyester Resin

vendredi 6 novembre 2015

Trial polyester resin with silver/gold powder just poured over some cracked and fissured US Desert ironwood burl I had. It was cast in in a PVC tube after I cut the corners off the square chunk of burl and threw the offcuts in as well in any gaps. The resultant 170mm long x 70mm dia blank was subsequently stabilised with Cactus Juice, then after a quick sand back, given a quick coat of lacquer to show colours and seal it. The different colours have not mixed completely, this is what I was worried about, but given me the swirling effect I was after.

I hope to turn this cast into a shaftless Crushgrind pepper grinder tomorrow. Hopefully the epoxy full sized Pepper Grinder casts turn out as good when done.
