Type of timber for old Verandah

Hello. I need to replace an old Verandah and am not sure of the type of timber to use. Most advice is for Merbau or other decking timbers. However, our home is 100 years old and we don't want modern looking timber....it would laugh at the house! We are quite happy with a nondescript timber that does not stand out. Something that ages ok without the need to paint, stain, varnish or oil. Any suggestions please?
