trivets

dimanche 11 janvier 2015

On the last trip away, I was wandering around bunnings in Gympie and they had some cork floor tiles in packs of 6 at a reasonable price so I got a couple for some trivets, the plans of which have been rattling around in my head for a while. I made them with some southern silky that came from (you guessed it) mapleman. These were just flitches that I got a couple of trips ago. Not exactly the prettiest timber that I have seen, but it still has some character.

Construction is mortise and tenon, with bracing ply rebated into the frame and the tile is glued to the ply and then three coats of polyurethane, as these are meant to be used and cleaned with water.
