New Sapphire buffalo dying in big patches

dimanche 11 janvier 2015

Hi guys,

I'm need some help here. 8 weeks ago I laid 200m2 of sapphire buffalo in the lower section of my back yard. I did lots of research before laying and afterwards on maintenance. About a week ago some large wide spread brown patches appeared and they seem to be getting worse. I've got a few theories but just would like some more opinions.

Before laying the turf I had the old grass ripped up and I laid down 100mm of good organic top soil. I used a starter fertilizer under the new turf and also installed a pop up sprinkler system. The turf took off really well, and had no issues to begin with. Was really green and looked healthy. Approx 3 weeks after mowing I gave it its first mow and then gave it another fertilizer (I know too much) but it didn't seem to mind and grew at a rapid rate after this and still looked very healthy. Although silly me used a fertilizer not recommended for grass under 8 weeks old.

At about the 6-7 week mark I noticed I bit of discolouration in patches. It was at this stage I had laid the other section of my upper yard (100m2)

And thought that the starter fertilizer I used in that might help the patches that aren't look so good. (I know, not good)

Anyway since then it's got real bad. It looks really sad. I initially thought it was too much fertilizer. But after some reading I thinking it could possibly have "brown patch" disease as we have had a lot of rain up here in Brisbane and the ground has been really damp. I feel as though I may have over watered it at the start of its cycle too. Obviously the too much fertilizer would have help contribute to this. I've ripped a section of the grass up 100mm and could see no signs of lawn grubs nor does any other signs look like lawn grubs. It does however have a few weeds and mushmushrooms growing in spots. Not sure what that means?

I've attached some pics and it had actually gotten worse since the photo which was taken yesterday. Keen to hear people opinions as I'm scratching my head a little.
