Ride-On Mower Deck setup... any advice?

jeudi 18 décembre 2014

I have a Husquvarna "tractor type" ride-on mower which works O.K. when setup according to the "owners manual". This setup is with the front of the deck a few centimetres lower than the back. However, I have noticed that I seem to get a better cut when going backwards!!!

I don't exactly have a "lawn" more like a couple of acres of paddock grass (mostly sub-alpine and drylands mix) which is fescue, bluegrass etc plus WEEDS. I find with the low front -high back setup the tall weeds (like "skeleton weed"... don't know its real name) get pushed over by the front of the deck and just pop up again often without really being cut.

I am sure the manufacturer's setup is great for expansive bowling green lawns that are well maintained, but for mine... not so great.

I have vaguely tolerated the situation for years but today, with long grass after the rain, I decided it was time for "corrective action". So does anyone have a clue as to the best way to set up a mowing deck? Interestingly, it isn't really possible to set up as per the manual as there isn't enough adjustment to quite do this. Duh!!

The blades are "semi mulching" in that they have some wiggles in the cutting edge and do seem to mulch the cuttings a bit. Mostly it throws the cuttings out of the chute, but nowhere near as much as the "throwing blades" which are used when the grass is really long and tough and which create rows of ejected cut grass that you have to get rid of.

All ideas gratefully received.
