Which Screws would you recommend?

mardi 22 septembre 2015

Hi All,

Just after a little general advice. I'm in the process of building an outdoor table for a friend. Steel legs (like a steel square at either end not individual legs), and the top is individual planks of recycled Tallowood and Ironbark. The timber is not a solid top, has gaps between each for drainage.

The question is though what screws would you recommend to attached the planks to the legs at either end.

The steel is around 9mm thick, and black. All I really need is a couple of screws in either piece at either end. The timber is 25mm thick. I've looked at everything from coach bolts, including galv finish. I have looked at Black Japan finish so that it matches the legs and looks better than galv finish, even though the screws will not be seen unless you look under the table.

Anyone who has built a simaliar project, let me know!

Cheers folks.

PS Please feel free to include as many bad 'screw' puns as possible in responses!
