For my bed head, I am using 80x12mm floorboards as a panel. Total size is 1200 x 1200mm. I had'nt thought much (at all) about wood movement. The outer pieces were going to butt up against the floating drawers which meant i wasn't allowing for any movement at all - now I think i will have to leave some sort of gap.
I am planning to use some 30x30 pine across the back of the panel. The pine will be attached to a steel frame (as per other thread).
So, two questions:
- Current thinking is to glue 3 or 4 floorboards together, and then use wooden cleats (table top fastening) for each set to the pine. Is that a reasonable method?
- given the time of year, in Melbourne, how much gap should i allow for at the sides.
