I consider myself a "Hand Tool Guy", but I've recently decided that I would like to skip all of the initial dimensioning and flattening of my stock for furniture projects. Large scale jointer and thickness planer as two separate machines is out of the question. If I go with a machine I am thinking about either the Hammer A3-31 or the Jet JPT310. I will get the helical cutter heads for whichever I get.
Looking for some feedback from people who have used or are familiar with one or, preferably, both. It's difficult to find a genuinely bad review for either machine, but they look very very similar.
The Hammer machine is considerably more expensive. Would anyone care to provide some cold, hard evidence as to why? As of now I pretty much consider the Hammer machine to be out of my price range, but if I'm going to be genuinely disappointed in the Jet, then I could be convinced to reconsider.
