This is a Caterpillar 299D Compact Track And Multi Terrain Loader, otherwise known as a Bob Cat, another toy for a big boy. The scale is 10 to 1
same as previous models , overall length will be 3850 mm ,with bucket on the ground.
The tracks are 3 rows of links the outer row 10 x10 , centre 20 x 10 all 18 mm long. Pivoted on 3 mm diam skewers , 9 mm c/c off holes.
Rebated all pieces to from the treads on the router table (see jig)
3 mm holes had to be very accurate for the links to fold, ends of links quarter rounded to allow folding.
Final shaping of the treads was by hand.
62 centre links plus spares ,124 outer links plus spares ,2000 operations .
