Water Easement Drainage Idea

mardi 7 octobre 2014

Hi,

I have a water easement at the side of my property. It's about 3m wide and some 30m long, with a shallow fall from where the water enters to the drain.

I reckoned i'd make a dry creekbed along it, but some bloke i chatted to suggested i could dig a channel about 500mm deep, line it with geofabric, fill it with coarse aggregate and fold it over then cover it in enough top soil and lay turf over it. I like this idea, because it would be easier for me to maintain and better for the kids to kick a footy on. I'd make sure that there was some kind of funnel at the top of the easement to get as much water going into it as possible. The neighbour, who stripped heaps of topsoil from his block to expose rock has created a situation where a decent downpour causes a mini-creek to appear up the back of his property which he's diverted to the easement. I suppose if i go for the turf option it might get boggy for a while because of this, but should drain soon enough?

Anyway, i quite like the idea, but would be pleased to hear if anyone can think of something obvious i've missed as to why i shouldn't do it?!

It's just a water easement btw, there's no pipes to worry about.

Cheers!
