Ideas how to finish this project

samedi 4 octobre 2014

Hey all,

I've been thinking of building myself a sideboard type thing for a while, to hold my mini hi-fi and keyboard. I envisioned making it all out of a thick sheet of plywood, so that the layers making up the plywood are on show (you can see in the attached 3D render that I've thrown together).

The problem is, I'm not sure how I could finish it off.. As in, I can't figure out what would be good to do for the legs. Also, I'm a little worried that it's going to look really 70's-ish..

Can anyone offer some advice for ways I could finish the design off? Or even if it's looking completely terrible and I should abandon it completely.

The materials that I plan to use are from Bunnings:

Soft-closer drawer slide: http://ift.tt/YZHWct

The dimensions will be:

1220mm wide (to reduce the number of cuts I need - just use the width of the plywood sheet that I buy)

450mm deep

(shelf with keyboard) 730mm off the ground

(shelf for mini hi-fi) 930mm off the ground

Here are the renders that I've put together.

The edging:

A base shelf that could be added for stoage/strength. This shelf will be around 10cm from the floor (no reason for that height, just a number that I picked)

Thanks heaps,

Denno
