I just bought a set of 4 Aldi, Workzone, chisels for about $13. They have chrome vanadium steel blades and ash handles. They are made in China. I don't suppose the backs will be al that flat but that can be easily fixed. The bevel has been sharpened to some degree on a belt sander. Again the sharpening is not an issue. Chisels could be sold blunt and it would not make much difference.
The sides of the chisels are narrowish at the tips and taper up to bridge girder size as you go up towards the handle. I am mulling over regrinding these to a narrower profile on the edge.ke
Now are they worth $13? Well I bought them for a young bloke who has few tools and less money so they are certain to be better than what he has. And they are better than the first set of chisels I had and used for many years. For $13 I don't know how anybody could complain.
