Is the tooth set the problem?

dimanche 9 août 2015

Hi all,

I've been having trouble with my current blade. It's 3/8" wide, 6 tpi and really thin material (lazy, haven't measured).

It struggles to accurately cut curves. Most usually the blade prefers to twist (despite the correctly adjusted guides being set just above the work piece) rather than go around. If the fence isn't set absolutely perfectly, the blade wanders left and right. I did have some minor bowing of the cut, but I tightened the blade and that went away.

The kerf is just 0.5 mm wide. I suspect that the teeth don't have enough set to make a kerf wide enough to allow the blade to manoeuvre behind it to cut curves or be at all forgiving on guided straight cuts.

Am I right?

Cheers,

Dave
