Birthpresent: Nametrain with a twist

jeudi 13 août 2015

My brother got his first baby 2 days before we got our second. For a birthpresent, he wanted something that I have made. After some thinking, he decided he wanted a nametrain. He sent this as an example:

I told him I could make that without a problem. But I also said I was afraid the little one would be fed upwith it when he would be 2-3 years old. Since I would like him to play with my toys for a bit longer, I made my brother a proposition: I would make him a bigger train, with the letters of the babies name. And that I would make a "real" carriage for the birthdays to come. That way he can play with it for years to come (I hope). My brother thought about it, and agreed. I showed him a few examples of train I could make, and he made his choice. This is the result:

The train is made from the plans of the book "Great book of wooden toys" by Norm Marshall. However, the plans would make it 7,6 cm wide, I choose to make it 6 cm wide to limit the size for a bit. Also decided to change the couplings to make it all wood instead of screw hool and eyes. The train is 33 cm long (including couplings). The total train with carriages is 100 cm long.

Please, let me know your opinions about this, both positive and negative. Always trying to improve.

I made 2 more trains, exactly the same, and am in the proces of making carriages for those now. Will try to sell on a market or online. I will show those when they are ready.
