Timber Supply in Adelaide

samedi 3 janvier 2015

Hey all,

I know this question has been asked a couple of times, but I've checked other threads and the yellow pages and still can't seem to find (online) the dimension of wood that I'm after.

I've found some plans for a loft bed online that I would like to build for my nephew. It calls for 2x4 and 2x6 lengths of wood. The plans are american, so I've figured that the dimensions that I would need that are equivalent in Australia is a 90x45mm length and a 135x45mm length, however I can't find anywhere that does dimensions bigger than the 90x45..

I have very limited knowledge of sourcing timber, I mainly use Bunnings' website as a the bible, but I've also checked out Bone Timber and other hardware stores, although not a lot of them list their timber available.

I also want to build myself a bed frame, and want to use thick square posts for the legs and long thick side pieces (basically like a sleeper), but I can't seem to find them anywhere either! I could always glue two 90x5mm pieces together to make a square for the legs, but then the post is only 90mm thick, which is not as big as I'd like..

Where would be the best places for me to look for these kinds of seemingly rare cuts of wood?

I live in the south of Adelaide (Seaford), so somewhere around here would be preferable..
