I arrived at Hervey Bay yesterday (on my Big Trip see http://ift.tt/1rwucRY) and I have parked on Artme's front nature strip for a couple of days :U. He wanted to cast some pearl white pure resin blanks so we quickly knocked up a timber mold for the 6 blanks. Mixed up 520mls of resin required for the cast, and due to the large qty of resin and relatively hot day ~30C (plus heated resin), went for 1% catalyst. We then went to his local wood club to meet some of the members and check out their set-up. Had a great morning talking a lot, geez not like me at all .
Came home again at lunchtime to find the resin still not set, so decided to leave it whilst we did some shopping picking up some supplies :U. Got back some 4 hrs after casting to find it still not set :?. Decided to wait some more while we cast some pinecones and banksia, using ~5% this time, as volume of pour for each cast was small. As I went to cast the 4th one, each in separate electrical tubes, the resin cup went off :~, ie in basically 30 seconds :o.
Mixed up another batch of resin with ~3% catalyst and filled the conduits and put them into the pressure pot. Also added some more catalyst to the original slab cast and left them to cook & have dinner. Looked at them all after dinner and they had all set Ok.
So had one cast that didn't go off, another that went off too fast, and the others Ok weird :?
Photos to come as we strip molds, cut and trim blanks, them make a few pens to try them out
