Hi All,
I was commissioned to make a pen for a fellow who is moving from Australia to North America to take up a role as president of a company. This will be his leaving Australia Gift.
The pen selected for the comission was the Majestic with 22Kt Gold and Rhodium fittings and the timber used was a nice piece of Coolabah from my private stash.
A lot of sanding and filling and sanding and refilling was done to the blank which really has enhanced the character of the pen and the material. The CA finish was also done and re done several times to give maximum depth to the coolabah and to be honest I totally lost count of how many coats were added.
To give a little personel touch to the pen but without taking away from the natural look of the timber in all its glory I engraved the name very lightly into the timber of the cap and then added a little gold fill prior to then adding more coats of CA to finish.
Finally it was onto the buffing wheels to provide a glass like finish.
The pen will be presented proudly in a Lead Crystal display case.
